The seminar was organized to identify the historical development of Confucian philosophy from ancient China to modern Korea, and to provide a forum for international communication for the study of contemporary Confucian philosophy.
Centering on the theme of China, we were able to gain a comprehensive view of the foundations of the study abroad tradition in Korea, China, and Japan and how it has changed over the years. Based on this foundation, we were able to think about the direction that the current political order in East Asia will pursue. In particular, we were able to explore the possibility that the concept of China can be reinterpreted as a cultural foundation that can be widely shared while maintaining its pluralistic centrality, rather than as an order centered on a specific country, which has many implications in terms of modernizing the traditional ideas of study abroad.
