The Center for Contemporary Studies of East Asian Classics and Critical Confucianism invitedProfessor Han Min to give a lecture exploring the following questions.
1. What are the methodological limitations of mainstream psychology in analyzing Korean minds?
2. Is Korean indigenous psychology establishing a viable methodology alternativeto mainstream psychology in a way that offers meaningful analyses of Korean psychological phenomena?
3. Is there not a discrepancy between the virtues or value orientations that Koreans apparently take important when evaluating themselves as well as others, and those that they actually take important?
4. Among the various pathological phenomena currently occurring in Korean society, what is "the unique Korean factor " fromtheperspectiveofcultural psychology?
5. Can the conflict between traditional and modern values be viewed as one of the main causes of some chronic pathological phenomena in modern Korean society?
Through Professor Han Min's special lecture, we were able to have an opportunity to get an understanding of the traditional elements retained in the structure of modern Korean consciousness and the function thereof. We also gained valuable advice on CCECC’s research agenda with respect to modern reconstruction of Confucian civic virtues.
