Outcome:
The seminar focused on discussions about whether democratic systems can remain the leading ideology and structure of society in the face of challenges such as the climate crisis. In her presentation, Professor Hwang Jung-A seriously reflected on the criticisms directed at modern democracy. Despite these critiques, she argued that democracy remains an unavoidable choice for our society. She proposed that by breaking away from conventional assumptions about democracy, it is possible to build connections between democracy and other values required today, thus creating alternatives.
The seminar sparked extensive discussions on how to reinterpret and reconstruct democracy while preserving its fundamental values. These topics will continue to be important issues for future seminars.
