On the occasion of the publication of Professor Jong-Seok Na's new book, "The Great Harmony Democracy and the Search for a 21st Century Confucian Critical Theory of Value" CCECC held a professional critique and discussion to examine the purpose and meaning of the book and to explore the critical possibilities of the Confucian tradition.
The presentation of professional book reviews of each part of the four-part book and the author's responses to them provided a detailed and in-depth understanding of the book's purpose and content. The reviewers are all active teachers in the fields of Eastern and Western philosophy, and they provided in-depth reviews on a variety of topics, including the book's methodology, interpretation of Confucian theories and traditions, and perspectives on Korean history. This led to an in-depth discussion on the actuality and implications of the ‘The Great Harmony Democracy’, the possibility of theorizing it ideology in a modern and critical philosophical way, and the role it can play in Korean society and Korean intellectual circles today.
